Randy’s donuts brings iconic flair to Gilbert
In 2024, Randy’s Donuts, located on Val Vista and Queen Creek, opened just around the corner from McDonalds and Blackrock coffee. Since their start in 1952, Randy’s has gained popularity for their unique and classic flavors, even having numerous appearances in television and movies. The restaurant’s interior has a vibrant, vintage look where they display all of their donuts in a glass case.
I began with the Blueberry Iced Cake Donut. The donut had a bright purple glaze with blueberry chunks inside of it. The donut was sweet and had a very strong flavoring, but had a soft, airy texture similar to cake. Cake donuts are made to be lighter than regular donuts making it a delicious contrast.
Overall, I would rate the donut a 9/10, while it was a nice sweet treat, the strong blueberry flavoring may drive away other customers.
The Oreo Raised Donut was topped with Oreo cookie bits and tasted similar to the popular cookies and cream snack. The donut had an interesting texture, the Oreo cookie’s crunchiness did not mix well with the softness of the donut. Overall, I would rate this donut a 7/10, the sweetness and flavoring of the donut was accurate to the cookie, but the differing textures caused significant dislike.
The Coconut Raised Donut lacked coconut flavor and instead tasted similar to a regular glazed donut. The donut lacked interesting components and felt underwhelming compared to the other donuts I tried. I would rate this donut a 5/10, while others may enjoy the simplicity of this donut, to me it felt plain and uninteresting.
