As students move up in seniority, other schools often give them the opportunity to park in the front of the parking lot, with it being more convenient for seniors who leave early. Instead, seniors are forced to park in the bus barn at the back of the parking lot on campus, turning what would’ve been a two minute walk to your car into seven.
Senior Taryn Archambeau voiced his frustrations with parking in the bus barn. He highlighted, “It would be way easier for seniors to park at the front. Seniors are coming and going from school more frequently than any other grade level.” Archambeau further explained how far the bus barn is from the school, possibly contributing to tardies amongst Seniors. Archambeau elaborated, “I believe it would be saving seniors their time and would result in fewer tardies among seniors.” Overall, parking in the bus barn is inconvenient for Archambeau, as the long walk makes it to where many students have to rush to class in the mornings from the parking lot.
Senior Kayla Reeves expressed disappointment over the school’s choice to put Seniors at the back of the lot. She voiced, “When you’re a sophomore you start out at the back of the lot…and juniors get the middle and seniors should get the front because it’s less of a walk and you leave early.” For Reeves, the walk to and from the bus barn has been inconvenient due to distance, requiring a long walk to and from your car. Reeves feels as if parking should be changed for the convenience of the senior class.
Security Guard Kelly Pechloff explains that Seniors parking in the bus barn is primarily for convenience purposes. Pechloff elaborated, “Most seniors are early release seniors, so…when they leave, they all leave together, opposed to leaving out of this lot where they would be mixed in with other students.” Pechloff explains that by keeping seniors separated, it makes sure that students aren’t mixed into the main parking lot during early release
Overall, parking in the bus barn is inefficient for many seniors, as they have a long walk to and from their cars when they come and go from school.
