“Wizard of Oz” takes Perry down the yellow brick road

“We’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!” The drama department’s production of the “Wizard of Oz” takes Perry on a journey down the yellow-brick road.

Though not reaching the same heights as “The Addams Family” from last semester, “The Wizard of Oz” is still another fantastic show from the Perry High School Drama department.

Once again, the student cast does an amazing job portraying each character as if they were real. Even though some were under the weather, the cast maintained a professional attitude and powered through the performance, doing an excellent job.

The elementary school kids from Ryan Elementary School that performed the part of the Munchkins did a great job.

Every crow and talking tree was well-represented comedically. The biggest eye-opener of the cast-the live dog acting the part of Toto- evoked a lively and emotional reaction from the audience.

Props to the prop crew and set designers for an eye-opening set. The set, designed by students, was beautifully designed to compliment the story. From simulated powers of the Wicked Witch of the West to the snow falling down on the poppies, the created environment has to be the best thing about the production, aside from the talented cast.

Even the classic tornado was simulated with various flashing lights, realistic sound effects, and a turn-table with Dorothy spinning in the Tornado.

Through the set and talented cast, the audience is easily engaged with the story being portrayed.

One can only imagine what wonders lie in the next and final production of the school year, “Almost, Maine.”
