Boys team celebrates a goal during their senior night.

The team played their last game on Jan. 27, as the boys soccer season coming to an end, losing to Corona del Sol 1-5. The boys ranking was moved down to 20th, disqualifying them to compete in the play-offs. Although the boys season ended in disappointment, the season showed the coaching ability of new head coach Brian Crayon, as well as improvements the team can work on for next season.

Jaden Vijungco, a junior on the varsity team states, “It was an interesting season. It was kinda rough.” The team ending the season with an overall of three wins in section games, being 6th in the section one standings.

“It went well despite the outcome in the end,” Alex O’dell, a junior and the top goal scorer for the team describes the season. “[The team] stuck with it and never gave up.”

With the start of the off-season, the players are trying to make improvements individually for next year in order to come back a stronger team and program. “Making more of an impact on the field,” Vijungco comments on his goal for next season.

As team improvements go, Vijungco believes the team has to work on finishing; the team scored a mere 17 goals this season, including tournament games.

O’dell hopes to work on his forward position stating, “I’m going to work on my touch and my finishing for next year.”

Six seniors, all defenders, are graduating this year, leaving many positions that will need to be filled. This change can affect the team’s possession as one of the high points of this season was the ability to possess the ball.

Losing six players can also affect the dynamic of the team as O’dell says that their personalities are what is going to be missed most about the leaving seniors.

Even though the season ended in defeat, the men’s soccer program proves to have potential for next year; the program will continue to work on their weaknesses and strive to improve  their high points during this vital off-season.
