Towards the end of the school year sophomores, who are freshly 16, get their drivers licenses. Sophomores are then given the opportunity to park in the main lot, allowing them to be closer to the school. However, some seniors argue that they deserve priority parking over sophomore and juniors, fortunately that is not the case.
Seniors leave early and often come in and out of school grounds. Logically seniors should have to park in the bus barn, they often do not stay the entire school day anyways. Seniors may claim to have seniority, but when front row spots remain unoccupied for half the school day it would make more sense allow sophomores and juniors to have the closer spots.
Sophomore Eliza Andrus believes that seniors should park further since they exit campus sooner than other grades. She started driving in February and has a relatively further away parking spot than others. Andrus also mentioned that seniors should park further to lessen the excessive traffic that occurs after school at 2:14 P.M. Late start seniors parking in the bus barn helps to smooth over back to back cars in the main parking lot.
Sophomore Charlie Morgan got her permit in June of 2025, her parking spot was close to the back end of the main lot. Morgan pointed out, “I think it is fair for them[seniors] to park where the bus barn is because they end their classes earlier….” Morgan expressed that even if she had a further parking spot it was easier for her to get in and out of campus since there were not a lot of people surrounding her and she did not have to deal with other students or parents.
Sophomore Riley Mora mentioned that she did not mind if seniors got the closer parking spot and should have the priority as they are soon to be graduates. She was one of the last people to get her permit in March, and that gave her disadvantage since her parking spot was one of the furthest and she had to walk a lot to get to her first class. She explained, “It is annoying everyday because I have to walk a lot to get to class.”
Even if seniors may complain about their parking requirements, the best option is to give those spots to sophomores or juniors.
