Season 2 of Outer Banks continues the hunt for the treasure John B’s dad once set off for. The director left fans eager to learn more after a shocking ending.

After Outer Banks made its premier last summer in the midst of quarantine, it objectively became a hit and immediately renewed for a second season. As expected, season two picked up right where it left off. John B and his new love interest Sarah Cameron are still on the hunt for the gold in hope of finishing the job that his dad had once started. However, by doing so they have become fugitives after getting caught up in a quarrel with Sarah’s vengeful family.

The screenwriters did an excellent job introducing new characters along the journey. New faces really keep the whole series alive and it added a more realistic vibe to the whole show. It really had changed the dynamic of the show. Tragedy was sure to always strike somewhere, and constantly new truths were also being found which played with the audience’s emotions. There were instances where the audience had known something before the main characters.

This season shifted the mood with an increase of suspenseful or thrilling scenes. Ward Cameron, the mastermind behind John B’s eviction off Outer Banks, is seen throughout the series trying to cover his tracks and keep his family together. On the contrary, Kie, JJ, and Pope all try to testify against Ward to help clear John B’s name. Many of the teen’s plans that toyed with Ward were stressful to watch because they add in a lot of suspenseful driven scenes. This technique grabs the audience and internalizes them inside the story. The suspenseful sequences allows viewers to to feel as if they are alongside John B and his gang while they are pushing against any possible threat.

As always, the treasure hunt is super tight with competition such as the Kooks and new antagonist Rafe Cameron. The director made a great use of forming new alliances as well as breaking some to help stir the pot. There was a healthy balance of action and dialogue, because not a single episode passed by without some sort of fighting or violence. The Pogues were so driven to go after the gold. As a viewer, it is easy to forget that you are not alongside them searching. After discovering life changing news, the Pogues decided to go after a new treasure that was of inheritance to one of the four friend’s family.

The ending of the second season did not end in quite the same quality as the first finale however, the engaging plot and new characters certainly make up for that. Overall, season 2 was a major success. The creators of Outer Banks did a great job picking up from where they left off and connected the lines from past mysteries. And last but not least, the ending scene had many viewers blowing up the internet after an unexpected twist.
