Students are adjusting to a big change this year: a new lunch schedule. What used to be a familiar routine for most, has now shifted, with longer lunch times, one less lunch, with less underclassmen, the school has made a major shift. Reactions around campus have been relatively similar, most say the change makes their day more stressful.
Junior Alaysia Coleman now has trouble eating lunch early after this schedule change. She explained, “I think the lunch schedule is bogus because why are we eating lunch at nine o’clock in the morning on block days [A lunch]…that’s dang near breakfast and I’m still hungry in the afternoon.” Coleman clearly stated that this new lunch schedule is unnecessary.
Senior Rylan Wiley explained, “Honestly the lunch schedule doesn’t bother me that much, at least we get a longer lunch time, you know? Well I guess it doesn’t matter for me because I go home early but I don’t feel any type of way towards the new lunch schedule, I guess it is a bit crowded but oh well.”
Senior Lily Peña expressed that having her lunch on campus is often an infrequent occurrence, the couple of times that she has had lunch on campus was not enjoyable. Peña claimed, “I barely have lunch here, but the couple of times that I did it was so stressful and crowded.”
Overall, students have mixed feelings about the new lunch schedule, but one thing is apparent, the new lunch schedule has changed students’ midday break, for better or for worse.
