Every year there is a field trip called Kiwanis, in which they go to the Arizona state fair before it is open to the public to take special needs students of all ages throughout Arizona to experience the State Fair and help out around. Making the students feel happy and the members get a chance to build a sense of community.
Most volunteers on the trip are from the international community DECA. They take the students around the fair to go on the thrilling attractions. Not only do they help out the children, but they also volunteer by selling tickets at the entrance, making foods like hotdogs, and controlling the parking. Helping out the community by volunteering in a great way.
Brandon Fields is a new teacher this year, anticipating and helping the students prepare for a successful Kiwanis trip. Mr.Fields states that “The expectation for us is just to be in the community. To get our brand out there to let people know about Perry’s DECA.”
The members of DECA are looking forward to and knowing what to expect for Kiwanis, there are lots of positive and exciting things DECA is hoping to accomplish while on the trip. Senior and President of DECA Charlie Barkman said “ I am looking forward to meeting new people and having a fun time at the fair.
When DECA goes on the trip, junior Christina Zheng a DECA officer said “We get their early in the day and wait for a little bit to get organized and split up into different groups and teams, then basically spend time with the kids for a few hours then around 12 send them for lunch and then we get to experience the fair.”
The Kiwanis trip is something to look forward to every year for the members of DECA and the kids they take to get away and enjoy the state fair for the day surrounded with much love.
