Over the summer of 2025, Arizona has seen record breaking highs as temperatures have risen, causing a rise in energy bills and fall in outdoor activities during summertime Good Morning Arizona’s Meteorologist April Warneck elaborated on rising temperatures here in the valley. Warnecke stated, “We set a
new record for the hottest August day ever recorded in Phoenix.” Phoenix has broken heat records throughout the summer with the mornings being warmer. Good Morning Arizona’s Meteologist Royal Norman talked about the rising utility costs. Norman stated, “The hotter it gets, the more electricity we have to use to keep us cool.” This is due to the
urbanization of the Phoenix area. Phenomena in Natural Sciences teacher Kathleen Kinnaman talked about how the concrete has contributed to the rise in temperatures. Kinnaman stated, “Because there’s so much concrete around…it traps the heat with the infrastructure in the city.” Compared to the natural desert, cities are warmer than the rural countryside. The rise in temperatures in the valley is in part due to urbanization in the Phoenix area, with the expansion of Phoenix resulting in higher temperatures altogether.
