Not only having a unique name, this new club is breaking stereotypes and setting trends across the school. The Fanny Pack Club, started by senior Kaitlyn VanKlompenberg and juniors Daniela Bastidas and Samantha Christensson, is a new club at Perry with a goal to turn some heads.

“This is a club for different people; for the people who really aren’t afraid to be a little weird and show a little strut,” VanKlompenberg states.

The meetings will consist of fanny pack designing, making, and some of the history behind them. “Our club [will] have some history about the fanny pack, cultural differences in different countries, what they call it, [and] what they use it for,” Bastidas states.

This club is not just about the fanny packs though, “we’re going to do a few fundraisers and we’re going to do a few charity events. It’s just a place for people to come together over this little accessory and do fun stuff,” VanKlompenberg explains.

The three co-presidents had a little bit of an issue getting the club started though. “We turned in our request to make this a club, and it got denied. And they didn’t give us a reason as to why it was denied, so we really fought for it,” VanKlompenberg states.

The club has made a good impression around campus to those that have heard of it. “I think it’s a goofy way to break a stereotype and not be so worried about what others think you’re wearing,” junior Courtney Baldwin states.

The first meeting for the club is Wednesday, Sept. 16, during conference in club co-sponsor Tammy Soelberg’s classroom, in the bus barn.
