Kacee Perry

This was the t-shirt students received for participating (girls).

The bleachers are packed, as the first home game peaks at the end of third quarter. Perry is driving in the lead and it is about time folks, start heading out, before the major influx aborts the stands. Yet, a succulent smell fills the air with a roaring call of “Free burgers!”

That’s right-and not only were there free burgers at last Friday’s game, but free hotdogs and so much more.

Culinary students stepped up to cook a mass of food after the game, which caught the attention of the game’s fans, especially since there was no price to be paid.

“It was delicious! Nobody can beat free food,” exclaimed Ben Roesner, a patron at the game.

The students working the scene did receive, however, a t-shirt for their efforts, in which was geared as a gift enough for participating.

“I thought the t-shirt was really cool and it was nice that it came with doing it, even though it made no profit they still reached out to get us stuff. I just think it is really important that culinary shows that it is willing to help out, even if it is not required,” stated Culinary Club vice president Zoe Gregg.

With that, the teens served overall about 40 burgers, 30 hotdogs, 30 teriyaki chicken, nine boxes of M&M cookies, and about two boxes each of Doritos and Lay’s Potato Chip bags.

The food was donated by the Perry Touchdown Club (TD Club), which has been providing food for the past several seasons.

“It really is more just to thank the fans for coming out and supporting the team. It has been tradition for the past several years. We select 3 games during the season to tailgate,” exclaimed Denise Hanson, a member of the TD Club.

This is just the first game of the season to offer such fare, bringing in the next opportunity for a free meal next week.

“For homecoming we will have a tailgate and Wingstop will be providing wings and other side items free to everyone immediately after the game,” concluded Hanson.

With that, come on down for the next game, to receive a free of charge treat.
