With clubs, parties, sororities and fraternities, social life can be a very important, although overwhelming, part of college for many students. One of the most sociable parts of college is the Greek system. Joining a Sorority or Fraternity can escalate a student’s social position immensely.
These houses have weekly activities and parties where freshman have the ability to meet new friends at such events. Sorority or fraternity members may live in the designated sorority house or a dorm. Although joining a sorority or fraternity can get a student high up on the social totem pole, it may limit the friends that they have. They may not be open to meeting people who are not in sororities and fraternities.
The sense of community remains a positive aspect of Greek life for students who consider the option. Jamie Waxler, a Gamma Phi advisor for Arizona State University claims, “I am so honored to be advising such a wonderful group of girls at the Gamma Pi Chapter. [Those] girls make me proud to be an Alpha Phi.”
Although social life is an important part of the college experience, it may be difficult to juggle both academics and a social life at the same time. This has a definite impact on freshman. Often, new members are not accustomed to the workload they are given, as well as meeting new people in the college time frame.
As well as joining a sorority or fraternity, there’s a huge range of different clubs that one can join. Joining a club depends on the person interests and hobbies. There’s academic clubs, sports clubs, clubs for the arts and many more. Clubs set up booths around campus with flyers to give out and information about their club. This is any easy way to find out different clubs to join and what clubs friends are joining.Altogether, there is many different things that college students are able to do to make friends and maintain a social life during school.
