“The Batman”(2022) released on March 4th. In the first week of its release it has made $128.5 million at the box office.

“The Batman”, starring Robert Patinson, has received a lot of praise for its gritty storytelling and dark themes. This movie is about Batman’s quest to solve his greatest mystery yet and hunt down the Riddler.

“The Batman” does not take the traditional origin story, as it starts two years after Bruce Wayne has already taken up the role of Batman. He arrives at the scene of the murder of the Mayor, who was killed by the Riddler. The Riddler goes on a killing spree leaving several clues that lead Batman towards a bigger mystery. From then on viewers follow Batman and Bruce Wayne as they uncover several mysteries not only involving the Riddler but also himself. Along the way Bruce meets Selina Kyle, Catwoman, and they partner up for part of the movie.

The movie has a dark overtone that is reflected within the cinematography and lighting. The cinematography in this movie was flawless, from the fight scenes to the more serious scenes. Not to mention the pacing of this movie, although it has a total run-time of about three hours, it is still perfectly paced and never feels too slow or too fast. The soundtrack of this movie also fits the darker and more serious tone that this movie has.

This movie set out to become a darker take on the superhero genre, and that is exactly what it accomplished. Batman has always been a darker character within the DC universe but this movie takes it to whole new heights. Even the riddler, a classic Batman villain, has a darker costume and storyline.

This movie sets the stage for other DC affiliated movies coming out later this year such as The Flash, Aquaman 2, and Black Lightning. It sets the bar high for other DC movies and superhero movies in general.

This movie is completely separate from other DCEU projects and will not yet feature or include the Justice League as we know it. The jump from the Justice League movies to this movie was significant. Compared to the Justice League, this new version of Batman had much better writing, characters, and storyline. “The Batman” has a 85% on rotten tomatoes while “Justice League” has a mere 40%.

The leaps and bounds DC has taken to achieve this kind of movie are asstoniting. What they do next with not only this new Batman but with the DCEU as a whole, nobody knows.
