Junior Taylor Shin varsity tennis player, hits a back hand at the varsity tennis match against Highland on Thursday April 10th.

In a close tennis game parents and friends cheer from the stands as the match’s scores reveal themselves. The Puma’s slammed Casa Grande 8-1 and followed up with a win over Mesquite 6-3.

The girls, thanks to their coach Keith Castillo, have ran their competition into the ground. “We did really well and had the toughest season so far,” stated Castillo. Their biggest rival was Basha, who they lost to with a final score of 2-7. Though the competition was rough around the edges these athletes have fought hard. “We should finish the season with 6-8,” said Castillo “We won against very big perennial schools,” he stated. The tennis team’s talent has carried them far, but even the pros have room for improvement.

Three things Castillo would like to see improved before next year are; footwork, consistency, and first serves, all of which are very important aspects of their game.

Tennis’ great aspirations are proudly led by Castillo’s team leaders, Allie Schibel and Taylor Shin.

Women’s tennis will be marked in the books for their great, and hardest season so far.
