‘Tis the season to be jolly especially when word of a new Dutch Bros. opening up just South of the 202 on Val Vista Dr. just North of the Quiktrip. According to the company, the new coffee shop still has no exact date of opening. With this recent announcement some students are overjoyed with its closeness to Perry compared with the nine mile drive to the downtown Gilbert location.  

Yet, why are people – especially high school and college students – obsessed with Dutch Bros. when it is ultimately just another coffee shop? On any given day after school one is bound to see a full line of the surrounding high schools’ students waiting in the drive through or outside walk-up lines. The lines are even so more heightened on each first day of a month or known as “sticker day” to Dutch lovers. After ordering a drink, the customer also is awarded an exclusive sticker that changes its design from month to month making it a collectors item.

The establishment started in 1992 with the first location in Oregon, has now spread to 260 locations in seven states along the West Coast. The company has experienced an exponential rise in popularity within the last few years. The concept of cafe with more than coffee has even led to similar establishments sprouting up has even spread to similar establishments like the new Black Rock Coffee Bar opening up in the East Valley which holds similar menus and prices.

Dutch Bros. serves a variety of drinks from an assortment of coffees, teas, rebels (an energy drink mixed with an assortment of flavored syrups), frosts, and even its own chocolate milk. The attraction revolves around in its variety of flavors with secret menus listing the different flavor add-ins.

Not only is it a coffee shop but it appeals to those who dislike coffee. Whereas Starbucks mostly aims to coffee-drinkers and do offer some options but not nearly as equal. While Dutch Bros. gives a wide assortment with flavored green and black teas. Along with the teas, the rebels and frosts have no coffee and give an entirely different flavor. Thus making it more popular against coffee haters.

Along with the variety of drinks, there is also a variety of customers. Ranging from young to old, Dutch Bros. offers a personalized experience for everyone.

But, what makes Dutch, Dutch is the atmosphere. With its friendly and outgoing workers along with the loud music, it serves as perfect go to hangout place. The overly kind and sociable workers are always willing to carry on a conversation with the customers. The stamp cards, with a free drink of any size at the tenth drink, all add to its lure with teenagers. Its location also makes an ideal venue because most students are familiar with the coffee shop and its location right on Gilbert. Most importantly, Dutch Bros. offers a destination with ecstatic employees and delicious drinks.
