Question and Answer with Mrs. Stutz

Q:What is your job at Perry High School, what grade do you teach and what is your name?

A:My name is Mrs. Stutz, I am the Advanced Culinary Arts Instructor and I teach 10th-12th grade.

Q: What is one thing you love about cooking with Students? 

A: I love seeing their creativity and excitement when they make something for the first time. I also love getting to know my students because I walk around the room and I talk to them during the labs. I once had a student tell me that “I was the only teacher in 4 years that ever asked her about job and how she was doing”.

Q: What College did you go to learn how to cook?

A: I went to ASU and majored in Clothing and Textiles. While I was in college, I worked at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale and that is when I learned to cook more of the upscale food items and dishes. My husband is a chef and he has taught me many techniques and helped me fine-tune my skills. 

Q: What inspired you to become a cooking teacher?

 A: My inspiration came from baking and cooking with my grandmother when I was young. she taught me to make dumplings and Polish food. I also, cooked with my mom for all of the holidays and for parties whenever we had family to our home.

Q:What type of food do you make in your class? List a few items.

A: In my advanced classes we make composed salads, baked mac n cheese, macaroons, mother sauces and stocks.

 Q: Have you ever had any fire accidents occur in the classroom?

A:I have had a fire and an accident in my class. It really upsets me and I always worry about my students well being. The fire was because the students turned oil on in a pan and it got so hot it ignited. The accident was people fooling around with an immersion blender and a student needed several stitches. 

Q:Are any of your family members cooks too?

A: My husband, Tim, is a Chef and I have three daughters that love to cook!  My mom is also very good at cooking and passed many family recipes down to me and my family!
