Our guide to a successful homecoming week

Homecoming week starts on Monday, Sept. 9, and we’re bringing you a simple break down of all the events coming up. This information comes directly from our student body president, Brintley Spencer and homecoming co-chairs MiKayla Ness and Hannah Fitzgerald.

The theme

This year’s homecoming theme is Mardi Gras, centered around the week of grand carnivals and parades that takes place in New Orleans each year. The Mardi Gras theme entails “Green, purple, gold…plastered everywhere,” according to StuGo president Brintley Spencer. The vibrant colors will be used to elegantly decorate the hallways, adding a pop of color to the upcoming festivities. Please note that although masks, a prominent symbol of Mardi Gras, will be included in many decorations, they are not allowed to be worn on campus.

Spirit week

It first kicks off with new days of dressing up and showing school spirit. Participating in spirit week is a fun and easy way to be involved in school. Getting your friends involved and taking pictures makes spirit week even more exciting.

The Homecoming Carnival

There will also be the annual homecoming carnival taking place after school on Wednesday, Sept. 11 including tons of fun-filled activities. Clubs will be out selling goods along with running games, the Puma Parent Organization will host their annual Taste of Perry event.

“We have blow-ups, we’re gonna have a ride this time…it’s a great way to get the whole school actively involved,” homecoming co-chairman Mikayla Ness comments.

The Parade

StuGo’s newest installment is a Mardi Gras parade.

“[It’s] a starting point for where we want to take it for the [coming] years,” Spencer explains. In the morning during conference, students will line up

along the bus line to watch.

“There will be class floats and a spirit float,” Spencer noted, explaining that clubs will also be apart of the parade. Either making a float themselves or raising a banner.

The Homecoming Game and Pep Rally

With homecoming week then leads to the game and pep rally, which will both take place on Friday, Sept. 13 and are sure to raise an excitement among students. Students will be asked to wear their class colors and come cheer on the football team in their game vs Sandra Day O’Connor High School.

The Dance

After the game then leads to the Mardi Gras Homecoming dance taking place on Saturday starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $30 with an activity card, $35 in advance, and $40 at the door.

“We really want people to feel like they’re in New Orleans…we’re gonna do a French Quarter, a voodoo room, and we’re gonna mix it up and do a giant party,” co chairman Hannah Fitzgerald describes.

In general, enjoy yourself, get into school spirit, and have fun in the festivities that are soon to come.
