Our Take
In America the Super Bowl is hailed as sports royalty. The anticipation and preparations, not to mention the decorations and the food, parallels that of a bank holiday. It is elaborate and excessive but the atmosphere on that Sunday is unrivaled.
Despite the eager groundwork and excuse to throw a party, the Super Bowl is a funny concept in the fact that for a football enthusiast, it is either the most iconic game in history (if your team is competing), or the most insignificant game of the whole season if not.
Super Bowl LI proved to be no different. This year the New England Patriots faced the Atlanta Falcons. New England quarterback Tom Brady will strive to claim the record of most wins for any one quarterback in the league while Atlanta showed up for only the second time in Falcon franchise history hoping to claim Super Bowl victory for the first time ever.
The Falcons dominated up until the fourth quarter when the Patriots reclaimed the power and thus winning in overtime 34 to 28. What started as a major blowout turned into Super Bowl history as the first game to end in overtime.
But there is much more to the Super Bowl than just the game. Personally, the halftime performance never ceases to amaze. This year Lady Gaga stunned crowds with her aerobic abilities and use of drones to paint messages in the sky.
All in all, whether one is a fan of the teams competing or just a major football junkie, the Super Bowl stands alone as an event unto itself in which all sports fans can revel in.
