VOLLEYBALL NOTEBOOK: Pumas on Quest for First State Title in Program History

This is an ongoing story as the Pumas chase the programs first state championship. The top-seeded Pumas take on the number four seeded Corona del Sol at 7:45 at Highland High School.

Top-seeded Pumas cruise to quarterfinal win over Queen Creek

The Pumas knocked out the nine seeded Queen Creek Bulldogs en route to a semifinal matchup with the four seeded Corona del Sol Aztecs. The Pumas defeated the Bulldogs three sets to none and advance to the final four of the state playoffs. The team won the sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 and will take on the 28-13 Aztecs Nov. 5 at Highland High School. In the only head to head matchup between the teams this season the Pumas defeated the Aztecs here at Perry three sets to one. The Pumas will look to have a repeat of that matchup and advance to the state championship for the first time in the programs history.

Top-seeded Pumas cruise to first-round win over Westwood

The top-seeded Pumas girls volleyball team defeated the sixteen seeded Westwood Warriors in the first round of the state playoffs. The 31-3 Pumas cruised to a three sets to none victory in the opening round of the playoffs against the 21-13 Warriors. Senior captain Matea Suan led the way tying the school record with eight aces in the match. The top-seeded Pumas will battle the nine seeded Queen Creek Bulldogs November 1st at Perry with a trip to the final four on the line. The Pumas are on a quest to win the first state championship for the program.
