Perry Girls Basketball lines up to announce starting players.

The girls season has been anything but easy, with a record of 10-13, the girls have played some of the most difficult teams in their division this season.

Now it is the part of the season where the countdown to playoffs begins. Depending on how they finish, the girls will enter into the playins to compete for a spot to make it into the final playoffs.

Until then the team is continuing to work hard and finish the season strong. Freshman Tatyanna Clayburne said, “We’re working on our defence and trying to execute plays at the end of games incase its a close game.” The girls are working to clean up on some of their weaknesses to better the end of the season. “Were good with executing plays,” Clayburne said, “but our weakness is communicating on defence.” Now more than ever it is critical for the team to perfect these last few things.

Pinpointing what they need to work on, the girls are aware of what it takes to get themselves further into playoffs. “We put in a lot of work,” Kaylie Claflin said, “just grinding out the rest of the season and getting prepared.” Staying dedicated to their daily after school practices and making sure to be receptive of coach Mike Curtis.

“We have been really focusing on defence and rebounding,” Curtis said, “when we rebound the ball and play defense we keep teams sped up, we’re pretty good on offense.” And as the final days continue to count down, the girls basketball team is sure to be working harder than ever, demonstrating again their dedication and pride to be a Puma.
