Tennis puts up another successful season

Boys:

Perry boys tennis playoff season ended April 26. The Pumas were ranked the highest they ever have been in Perry history at 14th seed. The Pumas took 4 players to play at the individual state championships. “Perry has never had 4 players advance to the championships before,” says head coach Thomas Lennox. The 4 players that made state championships are: Kyle Vance, Brennan Sciascia, Jordan Yeager and Brigham Welch.

“Jordan Yeager was seeded 7th,” says Lennox, “the highest in Perry history in singles.”

The team had a very tough schedule this season, putting them up to teams either very highly ranked or extremely lowly ranked. Regardless, senior Brennan Sciascia saw this season as the most successful in his high school career. “I think this is the best we have been in my 4 years,” says Sciascia.

Coach Lennox is extremely pleased with the progress made by the boys this season, “I think every player improved from the beginning of the year.”

Girls:

Perry girls tennis team ended their season, falling just short of making playoffs.  Although the team fell short, they made impressive improvements.

“Kylie Goldberg earned the most team points of anyone on our team this year” says Castillo. Along with Goldberg, other players made improvements also: “Mackenzie Brown, who only scored 3 team points last year, scored 12 or 13.” Next year’s team is expected to build off of these improvements and carry the team, hopefully, into playoffs.

Castillo is “especially looking forward to seeing which players continue playing in the off season.” Going into next season, the team hopes to improve even more and make playoffs.
