Since it’s opening in the fall of 2007, the school’s lunchroom has remained relatively the same, apart from a few minor changes. However, now the lunchroom has made a great many improvements compared to how it was before.
The modifications are mainly found in all the tables and seating arrangements. The long, cafeteria tables that featured a built-in bench now feature separate stools for more comfortable seating, also improving the aesthetics of the room. Not only that, but there are now also new seats that slither through the cafeteria in an “S” shape. These new seats add life to the whole room and make it stand out.
After 16 years of staying the same, Principal Heather Patterson decided it was time to make a change. Patterson said, “It was time to update some areas which would be more user friendly to our kiddos.” Now instead of having only a few basic areas to sit and eat, students have more options for comfortable seating. Patterson also noted that she focused on “flexible seating groups.” Some of these include couches, high top and low top tables, charging stations, and more.
The inspiration for this revamp of the lunchroom came from many different influences. Patterson continued, “I really looked at MUs (Memorial Unions) like collegiate.” Inspiration was drawn from places like ASU, NAU, and even places like CGCC. She also stated it was important to “see flexible grouping, you see high-tops [and] low-tops, you see couches, charging stations with your logo everywhere.”
The lunchroom is not the only part of the school that will see similar changes, though. For example, Patterson said, “We did renovate C115. We changed that into a team room.” This room is now similar to a movie theater, and it can be used for things such as athletic film, and ESports.
Besides C115, Patterson also said, “There are going to be some other things that are going to be coming down the pipe here pretty shortly.” For now, it is unknown what other renovations the campus may see, and when they will come. It is certain, though, that improvements will come soon, perhaps seeing some similarities to design found in places the inspiration for the lunchroom came from.
Many areas of the school have stayed the same since the opening, and said areas could see some improvements in the near future. Similar to those seen in the lunchroom, these areas could be subject to new and unique developments.
Overall, the lunchroom’s renovations were a success, and undoubtedly an improvement as compared to the previous setup. From the new and unique seating arrangements, to the charging stations, and creative overall design, the improvement is the first of more to come.
