Ghostbusters or Box-Office-busters?
Are you ready to call back up the Ghostbusters?
Thirty-two years after the first showing of 1984’s Ghostbusters comes a particularly new take on the franchise. Set in a quite contrasting 2016 New York, four women hit the underground subway, a packed concert, and crowded streets on the hunt for the cause of the latest ghost outbreak epidemic. Viewed first as crazy spiritualists faking their ghost discoverings, Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) maneuver their way through countless hysterical obstacles to try and save New York and the rest of the world from an endless portal of death and a terrorizing antagonist.
Going into the theater to watch this movie I honestly didn’t have high expectations. I saw this new Ghostbusters as a remake, something from the past that was so undeniably great. And I thought, why even bother making more? But, I was pleasantly proved wrong by this new adaption.
The film honors the original by bringing back all of the living main characters from the 1984 version for cameos. Even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man made a smashing entrance. It turned out to be a truly sentimental sight to see.
Ghostbusters’ plot found its way back to the original between its cheesy jokes and not so settle references. Either way, one could definitely say the new movie is a crowd pleaser perfect for reliving the laughs that were conjured up from the big screen three decades ago.
Some greatly added comic relief came at the very end of the film in the form of the Ghostbusters’ assistant, Kevin, played by Chris Hemsworth. During the credits scene let’s just say stay tuned for some ridiculously funny dance moves.
The film landed a 73% on rotten tomatoes and an average rating of 6.5 of 10. So, not everyone took enjoyment to the film.
What it comes down to though is that the ghost apocalyptic movie personally proved to be a great comedy fix for anyone who loves to embrace the spooky spirit year round. And, clearly that showed for when people were given the opportunity to call, they called the Ghostbusters.
