Yates Hates: Valentine’s Day

‘Tis the season of love and romance. The birds are singing lovely musical tunes while a young couple is idiotically dancing into the clustered student parking lot clearly blinded by infatuation.

The concept of true love is negated by the idea that high school is comprised of a bunch of over-zealous teenagers desperately trying to get intimate with another person. Not only do I see Valentine’s Day as a complete joke in high school due to it being almost completely hormone-driven, it also seems like a great way for businesses to make a quick and easy buck off young “lovers” who feel need to impress their mate.

Certain business that sell various holiday gifts have little Valentine’s Day special deals where you can order various kinds of packages which often times causes competition amongst couples to see who has the biggest package (From said businesses obviously).

It truly is a most brilliant marketing scheme!

Honestly, if someone is in a relationship, why should they take this one specific day out of the entire year to dedicate themselves to their boyfriend/girlfriend when they practically do that everyday? Is it because ages ago someone decided to slap a name on this day and pass it off as a holiday?
