Just days after graduation, Senior Bella Negrete looked beyond the stage and toward a journey that would take her across Europe. Her trip included several destinations, such as Paris, France; Florence, Italy; Milan, Italy; and London, United Kingdom.
Negrete had traveled before, including two previous trips to Italy, but she still felt excited for this journey. Despite this being her second visit, she mentioned that she was excited for one place in particular, “I look forward to seeing the catacombs in Paris.” The historic tunnels, located beneath the city, were something she had wanted to experience for a long time.
In addition to visiting famous landmarks, Negrete showed interest in everyday life in each city. She wanted to spend time walking through the streets and seeing not only the big aspects of the cities but the small experiences as well. These unplanned moments create meaningful experiences on a trip.
Negrete said she would not be traveling alone. Instead, she would be going with her family. While none of her school friends could join her, she said she was still excited to share the experience with her family.
Travel had already been an important part of Negrete’s life. She said she had visited different places around the United States and had been to Europe before. These past experiences helped shape her interest in exploring new places and learning about their cultures.
Negrete explained that her trip would include a mix of planned activities and free time. Negrete expects to visit tourist sites, but also wants time to walk around without a strict schedule. She said she liked the idea of discovering new places on her own.
For Negrete, the trip also marked a transition between high school and what came next. Instead of moving straight into another routine. She chose to step outside of what was familiar.
As graduation approaches, Negrete looks ahead to her trip with excitement. While many of her classmates focus on college or jobs, she chose a different path. Her plan to travel allows her to gain new experiences, see the world, and learn outside of a classroom.
