An honor society is an organization that acknowledges high academics and creates a group for those that apply to join. Most honor societies require a high GPA, mostly 3.75 or higher, advanced placement classes, service hours and club activity.
John Prothro Rho Kappa Honor Society is the social studies honor society. It was named in honor of AP World History teacher John Prothro. World history teacher Danielle Platt as well as AP Government and AP U.S history teacher Elizabeth Tompkins had the opportunity to name Rho Kappa in honor of someone and without Prothro’s knowledge they named it after him. Prothro mentioned, “I always watch what I say, how I talk, what I do…my standards have to be way up because I’m a role model.”
French teacher Scott Nichols runs the French Honor Society (FHS). To join FHS, students must have completed 2 years of French. He said, “My hope is that French honor society impacts them [students] in their appreciation of French speaking cultures, there are French speaking countries in every continent.”
National honor society is an organization that all schools have, including junior highs. Senior Miya Dudt is the president of National honor society. She elaborated, “it is really a great community of people and you really feel you are doing something for the good.”
Dance teacher Fara Sadler is the sponsor for National Honor Society Dance Arts. Students must have three years in dance, and 30 points in dance that are achieved by participation in dance competitions. Some of the activities they had were to clean trash or help feed starving children.
Sports medicine honor society is an organization that gives students the opportunity to learn about sports medicine. Sports medicine teacher Allyson Romero is the advisor of sports medicine honor society, she further explained, “I love what I do. It gives me an opportunity to teach, to motivate the next generation, and build up the future of what healthcare can look like.”
Spanish 2-5 teacher Norma Rios and Spanish 1-2 teacher Marla Vaughn are the sponsors for the Spanish honor society. Spanish honor society is for advanced Spanish students that must complete Spanish three and have five volunteering
