When school cancellation was first announced, many students realized the amount of time on their hands, three Perry students decided to make some money. Jeremy Sprague, Tyler Mcburney, and Dylan Butler, decided to band together and form a lawn care company. Modern landscaping can be described as an artform, professional landscapers will often give quotes to prospective customers, and an essential aspect of the job is working with dangerous power equipment. McBurney, a freshman, at Perry described his experience starting the business. “It’s Great, It’s super fun being able to get some experience advertising and running a business”. After first posting flyers, the three settled on a website. Sprague, a freshman, at Perry said “It’s kinda cool because we are just experimenting with techniques to get our business more popular”. For all three the experience has come with all the challenges of business ownership, along with newfound wisdom and insights into solving their problems. “Figuring out reasonable pricing, scheduling times, and making sure we do the job excellent are all things that challenged us at the start”, Said Mcburney.

They generated a concept and went with their gut instinct, “Me and Tyler just one day were like, you want to do a landscaping business just to make money”, said Sprague, “he was like yeah, and two days later we had our first job”. The trio has been working on yards for the past few weeks and have already picked up some very important knowledge on the topic of yard work. “The client may have something in their yard that we haven’t dealt with before and we have to figure out how to get rid of it”. Learning how to think on their feet was one of the core lessons learned in their lawn care tenure. Many high school students have hobbies and passions outside of their school life, and it’s perfectly natural to evolve that into a business, “The advice I would give to people trying to start their own business is to full send”, said Butler, “stay focused and do not mess around”. They braved through hit or miss advertising and tried new things, that’s the mindset that drives businesses to new heights, and overall from the reviews left on their website, McBurney, Sprague, and Butler are working hard.
