English teacher Janet Larkin (center) and several students participate in games during the Homecoming Carnival earlier this semester. With news of the new 7-12 school opening, some students are concerned if their boundaries will change.

The construction of a new high school in the Chandler Unified School District has caused much excitement among teachers, parents, and school administrators. The school, located off of Power and Riggs, is on track to be in session at the start of the 2015 school year, and will admit students in grades 7-12.

Because of Perry’s overpopulation, district administrators have taken 2 square miles from Perry’s boundaries as well as space in Basha’s boundaries. These areas will be included in the new school’s boundaries.

“[The purpose of the new school] is basically to [alleviate] overcrowding [at Perry and Basha] and the growth of home development,” commented Serrano.

The freshmen of class of 2015 will also be largely affected by these changes. Serrano commented “if you [already go to Perry], nothing changes for buses or anything. But if you are coming in [as a freshmen] and you are in the boundaries for the new school, you have to find your own transportation.”

Much uncertainty still surrounds the new boundaries. Yet as far as sports go, athletic director Jennifer Burks believes that Perry will not be negatively affected by this new school.

“Athletically, that school is going to be in a different division than us. They are going to be smaller than us. I don’t really envision us competing against them very often in games.” Students should expect a smooth transition despite these changes.
