Imagine turning on the television one Friday night to see your favorite game show, only to find a familiar face solving puzzles and winning thousands of dollars.

Spanish teacher Megan Freemole became the second PHS teacher to appear on “The Wheel of Fortune,” which aired Oct. 4. Freemole stole the show, winning $22 thousand by solving two problems, but finished in second place.

“I had a great feeling that I would win,” she said, “because I’m such a competitive person.”

This was just another interesting chapter to the life of an invaluable teacher on campus.

Freemole teaches Spanish 2 and Honors Spanish 3 and is also the pole vaulting coach for the track team.

“I have always wanted to teach,” she said. “My love for languages drove me to study Spanish.”

Freemole graduated from McClintock High School and later Arizona State, earning her degree in Spanish and Spanish Literature. She later received a master’s degree in Education and Curriculum.

Since PHS opened in 2007, there has been a link between it and McHS – a large portion of Perry’s original staff came from McClintock or had ties to the Chargers.

“When I was an administrator at McClintock, she was a student there,” principal Dan Serrano explained. “I’ve known her for a long time.”

In addition, Freemole is happily engaged to be married next November.

“I can’t wait to get married to my best friend,” she said. “We want to travel and one day live and work abroad.”

Freemole genuinely cares about her students – she uses her time to help students with both  tutoring and extracurricular activities.

“She’s often one of the last people to leave this hallway,” Spanish teacher Kevin Chapin explained. “She puts in a lot of time that maybe not all teachers do in terms of how much she gets involved.”

After hearing of her “Wheel” success, Chapin said, “I was happy for her…that was something that could really benefit her.”

She plans to use the money to purchase wedding bands, replace the roof on her house, and fund her honeymoon to Australia and New Zealand next year.

Former English teacher Paige Otero appeared on the show in 2010.
