Between AP classes and competitive cheerleading, senior Taylor Williams dazed the school over with her triumphant prom queen victory, following her acceptance onto the Brigham Young University cheer team, which took place all in the same day.
“I felt like I was living on Cloud-9; it was so surreal. BYU cheer has been my dream since I was three, and making the team meant the world to me,” recounts Williams.
After being accepted onto the cheer team at 2 p.m., Williams flew back to Arizona at 4 p.m., just in time for prom, where she and senior Nicholas Brickous won prom royalty.
The night proved to be magical for Williams as she relays that “Titanic,” is one of her all-time favorite movies and Celine Dion, is probably one of her top singers.
“Hearing the ‘My Heart Will Go On’ melody was crazy because it is one of my favorite songs, and while me and Nick were going down the elevator the song started and I began bawling; I felt so overwhelmed.”
Grateful for her achievements and involvement at Perry, Williams conveys her gratitude saying, “I felt like I was making a difference; when everyone surrounds you and they are just smiling at you and are genuinely happy for everything, it makes you feel like you have affected the school.”
Williams continues to challenge herself daily in order to attain such accomplishments, and she maintains a positive mentality by setting goals, staying focused, and just having a fun time.
She explains, “I’ve taken all AP and honors classes throughout all four years, and its helped me work towards my goal. You have to discern yourself and control what you do, I guess I just put my school work and sport first.”
Along with these rigorous courses, she has also been on the Perry cheer team for all four years, and a captain for the past two. Williams acknowledges that the sport, her responsibilities, and the challenges she has faced have made her into who she is today, and attributes to her many successes.
Williams firmly believes that to achieve such accomplishments and feats, one needs to “set a goal, dream big, try for it, and whatever happens, happens.”
Extremely optimistic, Williams shares her plans for the future. “For a career after college, I want to be a labor delivery nurse. I love helping people, and I feel like it’s genuinely a happy profession that I would enjoy.”
