Kanye West releases documentary and album

Kanye West, one of the most influential pop culture figures of this generation, has released not only a documentary but a new album as well. The long awaited documentary started airing on Feb. 16th, Donda 2  is scheduled for a Feb. 22 release. Donda 2 will be a whole new separate release from the original Donda, and come out on his new streaming platform, the Stemplayer. 

On Wednesday Feb. 16th, Kanye yet again made history with one of the most long awaited documentaries. “Jeen-yuhs” began filming over 20 years ago when Coodie Simmons thought to follow a young Kanye West along his journey in the music industry. This documentary will take place over three separate releases and have a runtime be a total of about five hours long. 

The introfirst part of this documentary starts with the beginning of West’s journey as a music artist when Simmons discovers that he is a musical prodigywhen Simmons is starting to film Kanye and realizes that he is gonna be a prodigy, this episode is titled “act 1: VISION”. At this point Kanye was just a 19 year old producer from Chicago and yet he had already made a name for himself. After this we learn that he has actually moved to New York to continue to pursue his career. It then takes a turn, we then find out he wants more than to just be a producer, he wants to make his own music as well. After finding this out we follow West and Simmons journey to get signed to a record label and start to make Kanye’s hit album “College Dropout.”

The rest of the series will be coming out in weekly installments on Netflix. Along with this Kanye has also announced the Stemplayer, a new streaming service of his own making. This new way of streaming music will be all on a portable speaker, this speaker will include being able to listen to separate elements of the music including the vocals, drums, bass, and music. The Stemplayer is $200 retail and available for sale on stemplayer.com. 

Along with these two major events, Kanye’s Donda 2 has been announced, he held another watch party for this album. Unfortunately, this album will only be released on the Stemplayer. However, the watch party was streamed live on Youtube and also for free on stemplayer.com. 

The tracklist for Donda 2 includes about 20 tracks. However, this also means that essentially in order to listen to West’s new album it will cost $200. Ye has also recently released two new singles “City of Gods,” featuring Fivion Foreign and Alicia keys, along with “Eazy,” featuring The Game. These two singles also have a spot on Donda 2 but will also be the only repeat tracks on the album.
