Theatre Wins State Festival
Theatre brought back a first place win from the State One-Act Festival this spring. They were given two perfect scores and a superior with distinction, as well as being awarded with the AIA Central Region Championship.
Performers, Lester Nnagbo, Blake Miller, Alexandra Messersmith, Kate Brandt, and technicians Danielle Dicino, Austin Gritchen, Alex Duford, and Sydney Haugen were the first group of theatre kids ever to win first place by performing a musical.
“This group of theatre kids is very, very talented [and] not just by the awards they’ve won,” principal Dan Serrano said.
Senior Blake Miller commented about their accomplishment at the State One-Act Festival, “its winning first, I can’t explain it, but it put us as number one in the state”.
At the Festival they are graded, “on a scale in order of poor, fair, and superior, superior is top grade adding distinction is adding on [extra points],” Miller explained.
Their accomplishment was not only in the awards, but by also surpassing their rivals. “We’ve had a lasting competition with Basha and Hamilton so bringing home the state championship put us on top,” Miller said.
“As well as bringing back first place from the State One-Acts, nineteen other students in the Advanced Performance and Stagecraft classes, have [also] received numerous superiors… as well as qualifying for an outstanding for national competition and bringing home this state championship,” remarked Theatre teacher Shawna Marquis.
Theatre has had an astounding year, achieving many awards and superiors, making this a memorable run for the Theatre program.
