Perry’s best: athletics

Baseball- CJ Valdez

Senior pitcher CJ Valdez is busy with keeping a .377 batting average, .68 pitching ERA. Along with keeping up on the field he is one of the team captains for varsity. His attitude keeps the team in check but also makes sure to have a close connection with everyone.

 

Badminton- Julia Mumme

Senior Badminton player Julia Mumme, has had an amazing few seasons on varsity, with lots of  points on record, she is known for her skillful playing. She has racked up a lot of respect in the badminton community. She is known throughout schools for her killer spike and her quick reflexes.

 

Basketball- Madison Conner

Sophomore shooting guard Madison Conner has racked up a total of 845 points during her career on the Girls Basketball team. She holds an average of 17.7 points per game played and her total defensive and offensive rebounds this season add to 183. These stats demonstrate Conner’s ability to benefit the girl’s team both offensively and defensively, rendering her one of Perry’s best.

 

Basketball- Jalen Williams

Senior guard Jalen Williams led the Pumas to a final four appearance in the state tournament. Averaging 21 points and 4 rebounds a game, Williams led the offense for the team. Williams will attend Santa Clara University. Williams led the Pumas both on and off the court making him one of Perry’s best.

 

Volleyball- Matea Suan

Senior libero Matea Suan lead both the indoor and outdoor volleyball teams to final four appearances in the past year. Leading the indoor team with 597 digs over her three years on Varsity. Suan will attend and play beach volleyball at Missouri State University. Suan leading the team both on and off the court makes her Perry’s best.

 

Soccer- Brenna Alderson

Junior Brenna Alderson has completed 25 games this season, with 16 goals and ten assists. Her focused and hardworking attitude has helped pull the Pumas to a second place title in the championship game against Chaparral.

 

Softball- Sami George

Senior Sami George finished the season with a batting average of .329 and a total of 25 hits overall. Her determined and driven focus has pushed the team to record of 18-8, and uplifts the team with her outgoing spirit.

 

Volleyball- Daxton Tolman

Junior Daxton Tolman has been a force to be reckoned with all season long with 77 sets played and 42 Aces, and 94 kills. His hard work and dedication to his team has helped his team reach the playoffs for the second straight year. Tolman has been one of the strongest players for his team and will continue to perform next year.

 

Tennis- Tutsuya Tsurumi

Tutsuya Tsurumi is an exchange student from Japan who is playing tennis here at perry high school and already is in the number one varsity position. Being selected as the singles division one player of the year. Holding a singles record of 12-3 and a doubles record of 13-2.

 

Tennis- McKenzie Jones

McKenzie Jones, holder of the #1 Varsity girls tennis position for 3 years in a row. Now a senior with a singles record of 12-3, 12 victories and 3 losses. With a doubles record of 12-3 as well, winning the Hamilton invitational tournament. This last season being the record season in her tennis career.

 

Swim- Tanner Van Briesen

Tanner Van Briesen a senior perry swimmer who has been swimming since his freshman year. In the sport becoming a beloved athlete by seemingly everyone he came into contact with. Unifying the perry swim team and bringing together all of the athletes around him on and off the field.

 

Swim- Kallie Fama

Finishing up her Junior year of Varsity swim is Kallie Fama. Finishing the state 100m race in first place. Placing as the runner up in the 200m. Kallie Fama has been the top of the girls swim team since her sophomore year and will continue to swim for the team next year.

 

Wrestling- Travis Calloway

Travis Calloway has without a doubt left his mark on the wrestling program throughout his four years on varsity. This year alone he broke the record for most wins, ending with 144 total on varsity and walked away with the second place trophy at state. It is not just Calloway’s skill that makes him stand out, it is also his ability to lead and be a role model for his teammates.

 

Golf- Breann Brennan

Coming to Perry as a sophomore, Breann Brennan brought along skill and leadership ability. She helped to lead the golf team this year and will be furthering her academic and golf career next year as a Utah Valley University Wolverine.

 

Football- Brayden Rohme

Brayden Rohme, senior, led the Pumas to the state championship game for the second year in a row, earning himself AzCentral’s sports top-ranked offensive lineman. Rohme was a top recruit, receiving offers across the country, before committing to prestigious University of Cal.

 

Golf- Caden Christopherson

Caden Christopherson finished his last high school golf season placing third at state and carried the team to high placements in numerous tournaments throughout the season. He was a valuable asset to the Perry golf program and will continue his golf and academic career next year at Texas Christian University.

 

Soccer- Garrett Kowalski

This year’s soccer season has been the most successful it has ever been for the boy’s program. Garrett Kowalski, one of three team captains, is committed to be a Thunderbird at Mesa Community College. Kowalski is said to be an inspiring individual both on the field and in the classroom.

 

Pom- Alyssa Diaz

Perry pom program has loved Alyssa Diaz for two years now and is known for her positive outlook on the team and in the classroom. Alyssa was one of the three captains this year on the team and will be carrying over her dance career on the NAU dance team.
