The Puma sideline celebrates after Perry’s 56-31 semifinal win over No. 1 Mountain Pointe.

Over the years, Perry football has made it to the playoffs almost every year in school history, going the furthest this year. Last year, losing to Chandler was a disappointment after being practically undefeated. After conquering Mountain Point last week, the Pumas are headed to the State Championship game in Tucson at the University of Arizona Stadium.

While the student body is preparing to hopefully take home the title of State Champions, the administration is putting in efforts to get as many students to the game as possible by arranging a bus transport the students to and from the game.

With all the hype comes one potential obstacle; the stadium field is turf.

With most schools being normal grass, this poses a potential issue with both Chandler Schools playing on a turf field for their final game.

“This upcoming week we will be playing at Campo which is turf, so we can get used to it,” Senior Quarterback Brock Purdy said. “So hopefully it will not be a big deal.”

Leading up to their big day, they have been practicing at Campo Verde High School to get equipped with the turf. The turf has given a mixed emotion to the team since they do not normally play on that type of field.

“Personally I don’t really like turf because when I have played in the past, I would get ‘carpet burn’ on my elbow from tackling,” Senior defensive lineman Vincent Corral said, “but it’s an amazing experience to be able to play on that field.”

Junior sports medicine student Alex Rice has been to all the football practices and has been to the most recent one at Campo. There only poses a few risk injuries wise and they have already taken precautions to prevent doing so.

“We’re taping all of them up, like any scabs,” Rice said, “before they play because the turf will take the scabs off and the players cannot play with blood.”

With all this preparation, the Pumas are ready to take on the Wolves at the 6A Division Championship game taking play this Saturday.
