Girls soccer preview
Lace up your cleats, fill up your water bottles and prepare for the 2017-2018 soccer season.
The upcoming season will begin with a fresh team consisting of some surprising newcomers all trying to finish what last year’s state runner-up squad started.
In his fourth year at the helm, head coach John Roberts led the previous girl’s varsity team to second in state, finishing with a record of 22-3.
“Last year’s team was unbelievable, but that was last year,” Roberts stated. “This year’s team has an opportunity to leave their mark on Perry soccer. They control their own destiny.”
The team features star players ranging from juniors, sophomores and even freshmen.
Roberts claims that his team strength is the overall youth of the team, however, the weaknesses consist of little experience playing together and not having much varsity background.
Brenna Alderson, a junior and an expected top returning player, has the skills and accomplishments to return for another year of success. Before tearing her ACL last season, Alderson was the leading goal scorer and assist leader.
Another returning star from the team is Courtney Fernau, sophomore and midfield/forward player. She missed last season due to an injury, but Roberts is excited to have her back.
One of the best scholar athletes, according to Roberts, is Adelie Zechman. She is an amazing student and player with a 4.83 GP, but was injured this season.
No promises can be made for the upcoming season, however, the talent and fresh faces throughout the team make them more determined than ever.
