A great effort by senior southpaw Tyler Watson spurred No. 7 Perry to a 5-0 win in seven innings over No. 12 Basha on Thursday in the 4th annual Salt River Field Battle for Val Vista game.

Watson had a career day, throwing a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 Bears and allowing only two singles. In fact, only two BHS hitters would reach second base – no Basha player ever touched third.

The outing marked Perry’s 19th win of the year (19-7, 11-4), Watson’s sixth win of the season (6-1), tying the single-season record for wins and breaking another great Puma lefty’s – Jaren Drummond – four-year old strikeout record. Watson now has 56 punch-outs this season.
