New soccer tactics boost confidence

With winter sports underway, the men’s soccer team is off to a promising start.  Matching Dobson in their pre-season scrimmage against on Nov 26 to tie 3-3, it’s easy to be optimistic for the upcoming season.

Coach Roberts has already implemented new tactics such as a
new formation and increased aggression and passing. Julian Esparza, sophomore,
explains that by utilizing this, Roberts has led them to “come closer to beating Hamilton than ever before,” expressing his confidence in the team to succeed this season.

Describing his expectations for the season, Senior Tim Parra, goalie, states, “With the way our formation is, we can do some good
things this year.”

“Our strength is our skill level,” Esparza states. “Our weakness is our size because we’re all pretty short.”

Based on the season so far, Esparza adds, “I think we’ll be pretty close to playoffs [this season].”

Parra also anticipates success for his team based on motivation
and confidence gained from Roberts, describing, “He’s a great coach that [definitely] fits
into this program.”
