Varsity golf player Wacy Crenshaw Tee’s of on the 9th hole. Boys golf hopes to continue their winning season.

As the golf season has progressed, the Perry boys golf team has put in several quality performances after a disappointing start to the season at the Antigua National Golf Invitational. Competing at the Dobson Invitational on Oct. 4-5, the squad finished 16th out of 35 teams with senior Mike McGilton coming in 8th overall. Sophomore Brad Pottle contributed to the effort finishing in 74th. They followed this up with an impressive 2nd place finish at the Chandler City Shootout.

“I feel like we were ready to play going into the tournament and we played our best,” Pottle mentioned on his teams performance. Pottle, senior Alex Shin, and freshman Grant Froman all finished tied for 12th. McGilton sat out of the competition due to a wrist injury and remains questionable for state.

The girls golf season came to disappointing end with the team and no individual golfers qualifying for state. Senior Alli Gloss narrowly missed the qualification requirements, achieving four out of the five qualifying scores needed to make state.

However, Gloss remains positive about her performance throughout the season.

“Considering I dropped 10 strokes from last season, I think I did well when it comes to personal goals.” The squad closed out the season competing against Basha, Chandler, and Hamilton at the Talking Stick Golf Club on Oct. 16. However, despite a lot of confidence going into the tournament, the girls finished in 4th place behind all four schools bringing the season to a close.

“It was a really fun season. We had some new girls come out to play and it’s kind of a bummer it’s over so soon,” Gloss stated about the season coming to a close.
