The 2012-2013 season was a strong, successful one for the Lady Puma softball team. Ending the season with 25 wins and only 8 losses, they did incredibly well compared to previous seasons.
“We had a great overall effort this season winning 25 games,” head coach Kevin Chapin stated. “There are some things we would do differently, but I still believe we were very prepared going into the playoffs.”
Reaching the second round of the playoffs, the ladies were not far from reaching their goal of reaching the championship games. However, in their match against No. 1 Mountain Ridge on April 30, the Pumas took a hard loss 10-0, subsequently ending their season.
While all of the girls contributed to the team, there was one in particular who helped save the first game of the playoffs against Corona Del Sol. That player being senior Devon Ryan. Ryan got the game-winning RBI in the top of the 12th inning then helped finish out the game with the final three hits.
However, the Lady Pumas would not have gone as far as they did without their strong hitters, including Laynee Gomez, Brittany Hopper, and Devon Ryan. All three were key components to the team’s success. They have continued to show their importance and dedication to the team throughout this year.
Although the Pumas did not go as far as they had planned, their hard work and dedication to the sport showed. While the 2012-2013 softball season may have officially come to an end, this season in particular will be one to remember.
