With the varsity baseball team’s season at a close their record stands at 18-10, and unfortunately their nine power point victories were not enough to qualify for the state tournament.
In spite of this disappointment however, the boys know that this seasons efforts was not in vain.
As a second year division two team the Pumas managed to improve their power point record and also worked on improving offensive consistency.
“We’ve got nothing to be ashamed of.” explained Coach Shane Hilstrom.
“We played well, and had a good year.”
“Beating Basha at the stadium [Salt river Field] was a big deal for us, and I thought the Saint Mary’s game was good too; winning the Highland tournament against a really good Saint Mary’s team was a lot of fun,” stated Hilstrom, as he mentioned some of the season highlights.
Sophomore Austin Bull has high hopes for next season, stating, “Whenever you play more you get better obviously, and I think a lot of players have improved.”
In regards to work in the off season Bull added “I plan on hitting the weight room; making sure I get bigger for next year.”
The end of the season also means the end of high school baseball for this year’s graduating class.
They have all put a ton of time into this team, meaning it will be a bittersweet goodbye.
Senior Kade Bishop remembers playing “two ball” before games, and taking team bike rides to go get lunch. “I’m going to miss all that,” he said.
Leaving next year’s team with some words of advice Bishop said, “Play every game like it’s your last because it comes up quick, and just enjoy it while you can, have fun, and play every game to win.”
