Flying under the radar is a sport like no other; so fast your eyes can barely see the round white ball, so agile that years of training are required to acquire the precision to compete, and yet, so unacknowledged because of its reputation as a ‘recreational’ child’s game.
Table Tennis (more commonly referred to as ping pong) is no sport to take lightly. Professional players possess the skill to actually make the ball travel at speeds exceeding 100 mph and can hit the sphere over 180 times per minute.
This Olympic event is usually dominated by China, but has progressively become more prominent in the United States since the 1950’s. It is a game for all ages, genders, and abilities.
However, table tennis has been tragically ignored by the PHS sports and club world for unknown reasons. Cheaper than most sports when played at and amateur level, table tennis gives competitive students with alternative interests to participate in an athletic enterprise and is extraordinarily entertaining at the same time.
