Student Parking: Still A Problem
With a school that holds over 3,500 students and more than half of them being able to drive, there is bound to be student parking problems. There was a new parking lot built at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, leaving only around 20 driving juniors to not get a spot. But even with the new parking lot, students are finding it difficult to get around with how crowded it is and hectic parents driving.
Crowded isn’t even the best word to describe the scene of the Perry parking lots. Mobbed. Overflowing. As soon as the final bell rings at 2:14, students are going to their cars as fast as they can. Several students and parents picking up their kids in the same lot is just asking for chaos.
The new parking lot is located near the seminary building, meaning they have to go to the main parking lot to get out. Colliding with parents and about 900 other students, the parking lot is crazy crowded.
Junior Jacob Webb, who parks in the new parking lot, states, “I get out early because of EVIT but in the morning it’s still crazy. Sometimes people even take my parking spot.” That’s another thing. Why do people take parking spots that aren’t theirs?
Another junior Annie Brown explained that “After school there is always almost wrecks everyday. I think the parents are the problem because they aren’t paying attention.”
Simply, there really isn’t a solution when the school is overcrowding. The school could just use better driving rules in the parking lot to protect drivers safety.
