A new and improved spirit week

Let me start off by saying that I try to get excited for spirit week, I really do.
But when student government feeds us the same spirit week every quarter, it gets a little dull. Monday tends to start off as workout day, there’s a twin day and a tacky tourist day thrown in there, a class color day, and Friday ends with red hot day for the assembly.
These may be the most popular spirit days, but many students have gotten a little tired of the same old.
This upcoming spirit week is in celebration of this year’s winter dance, and has gotten me so excited, it’s made me practically forget about all the not so great ones.
According to the big posters in the C- and F-buildings, on Monday we’ve got “Disney on Ice” (Disney), Tuesday is “Toasty Tuesday” (ugly sweaters), Wednesday, my personal favorite, is “Winternet Famous” (appropriate memes), Thursday is “Ghosts of Christmas Past” (decade day), and Friday is “Flannel Friday” (which is pretty self-explanatory). These all deviate from spirit weeks in the past, which is positively refreshing.
This spirit week has clever, different themes with funny titles. It leaves a lot of wiggle room for students to be creative, such as deciding what meme to dress up as, or which decade to draw inspiration from, as opposed to past days where students were supposed to only wear one color.
Several students are excited for spirit week, or at least somewhat recognize the uniqueness of the themes. One senior, Melissa Teague, explains that even though she regularly dresses up for spirit week, in the past they have been “unoriginal.” Teague adds that this spirit week is “semi-original,” which seems to be the general attitude across the campus.
Students typically dress up for the days they have interest in, and I am sure there will be a lot of students decked out in Disney, ugly sweaters, their favorite memes, and so on. Hopefully this is a shift towards more consistently creative spirit weeks, but I’m just enjoying this one. You will definitely catch me geared up for spirit week!
