Working from home brings big changes

Our world is dealing with a pandemic, COVID-19. This pandemic has brought many changes along with much unity.

On March 13th Arizona was presented with an order of stay to be in effect until April 11th. “All persons may leave their place of residence only for essential activities” the Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, pronounces. He goes into further detail and says the following concerning work-“work is conducted in a separate office space from your home and the business is not open to serve the public.”

This is one of the changes made to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thousands of people now work from home, a big change in the everyday routine for everyone in the family.

“he [my dad] could be in a meeting with a hundred people online and we wouldn’t even notice because of the technology now,” junior Makenna Hill explains.

Now more than ever the technology is helping the workforce, and the people, to stay connected.

“My dad has a private office he can work in so fortunately my siblings and our volume hasn’t been too big of an issue,” junior Kaylee Murset describes.

But this is not the same for everyone, ”we’ve had to clear out a work space for him so he can have an office,” Hill says.

Many families have multiple kids, which lead to volume issues disruptions in the work day. It can be hard to focus on work in your own home, let alone when there is a family around for a distraction.

“Since he’s been working at home we’ve definitely had to be more quiet in case he’s in a meeting,” Hill adds.

For every family it is a different story, there are pros and cons to every aspect of working from home.

“It’s been a weird change because it has so many positive and negative effects,” Hill says.

However, there is one aspect of working from home that everyone can enjoy.

“There are times in the day when he has to be in his office, but for the most part he has been able to spend a lot more time with my siblings,” Murset comments.

In addition, Hill agrees, saying, “my dad normally travels so it feels like he’s been able to spend more time with us now.”

Working from home has taken many adjustments but, “Overall I think it’s been a pretty positive change for my family,” Murset decides.
