Food trucks to come to football games?

Food trucks throughout Arizona are being put to work at high school events and sports games in order to benefit both the school and the small businesses who are rising in popularity.

Some of those trucks are Waffle Crush, the Hot Cookie Truck, and the Grilled Cheese Truck. These gourmet food truck industries were all involved at the Perry varsity boys soccer games last school year.

Some believe it would be an effective action to bring those food trucks to the Perry home football games because it would make more people want to come to the games. Senior Brett Mullenaux said when asked his opinion on having food trucks at the football games, “Well I say it’s a great idea, it brings people out and gets more things out there for fans to do, not only to watch football.”

Junior Brock Johnson said “I think it would be a good opportunity for the food trucks and the students because everybody likes food and food trucks get a lot of money from setting up at football games.”

Having food trucks attend our school football games would allow families, students, and other people who support our school football games to enjoy gourmet food while watching the home games from the bleachers.

However, this would could weigh down on the Perry concession stand we have at the football games if handled incorrectly. The clubs that benefit from the profit made by the stand would make less money for their club boosters unless some of the money from the trucks was contributed towards the school.

John Roberts, last year’s Perry varsity boys soccer coach, said about food trucks: “My boosters loved them, it was good for fans because they love the food.”

Roberts also said “It also helped generate some money for our team, so proceeds of the profit went to our team. It was a win for them and a win for us.”

Overall, the presence of food trucks at Perry football games seems to be something many people would like to see.
