Layton Lakes cracks down on prom photos

Layton Lakes, located between Lindsey and Queen Creek crossroads, is a quintessential location for photographs. With the beauty of the lake, veranda, and park, it’s a popular photo shoot area, along with the close proximity to Perry.

However, Associated Asset Management (AAM), the home owners’ association for the Layton Lakes community, has increased their enforcement of a typical policy that may affect prom photo locations this year.

“If students who are non-members of Layton Lakes go to take pictures, the [AAM is] going to have the police arrest them,” Principal Dan Serrano explained in a Friday morning press conference.

This policy is not new for the community and results as a response from concerned homeowners.

“Layton Lakes community has always been private property, and maintained no trespassing signage at each park,” Carissa Phelps, AAM community manager, explains, “Owners of Layton Lakes have expressed growing concerns that these parks are being used by non-owners, thus impeding upon their use of the parks that they pay for.”

Layton Lakes informed local schools of this change via e-mails with specific regard to the prom photo festivities planned to take place the evening of Saturday Apr. 12. The community is hosting a private event on the same day and are concerned with the negative consequences that a large crowd of non-residents combined with those at the event may bring for both parties.

The policy will be enforced by Gilbert PD and a contracted patrol service and may result in legal action against any student/students who violates the new change.

“Layton Lakes owners are allowed to use the parks, and the parents must be present when their students photos are taken,” Phelps says, “An abundance of students showing up with one owner would be considered an abuse of [the policy], and not permitted.”

Prom goers may need to scout out different locations, such as Discovery Park or Road Runner Park, to avoid any potential legal action and ensure a conflict-free prom night.
