Ideal Games for 2016 Holiday Season and Beyond

Playstation Europe

Gran Turimso Sport, coming in 2017.

Battlefield One

“What follows is frontline combat. You are not expected to survive.” Those are the words set on  a stark black background. Battlefield 1 is not like other first person shooters tailored for the next-gen consoles. Its campaign is not made up of one long campaign. Instead, it centers on six smaller War Stories, as they’re called. Each has a different playable character and takes place throughout Europe and parts of the Middle East. Each War Story has two to four smaller segments to complete.

The game is powered by an upgraded Frostbite 3, enhanced using photogrammetry. Technical jargon aside, this means the graphics are so profoundly realistic, some cutscenes look like they could have been taken straight from a movie.

The stunning graphics, historical accuracy, and general novelty of a World War I-based game make it an enjoyable one, coupled with the fact that it has stopped trying to be Call of Duty make it an excellent addition. $80

Overwatch

Released in May of this year and already sporting nine different awards, Overwatch has become a favorite of many.

Set 60 years in the future, and similar in many aspects to the Valve classic, Team Fortress 2, this 6v6 multiplayer FPS is sure to deliver an exciting experience.

Players can choose from one of 23 different characters that fit into one of four roles: offensive, defensive, tank, and support. Each hero has their own special abilities and all comes from a unique and varied ethnic background, so diversity is assured.

Running on an in-house Blizzard-built engine means every visual aspect is specifically tailored to the game itself. Animations look crisp and clear, no matter what graphics setting it is on.

The plot and friendly camaraderie of online experiences are sure to make Overwatch an exciting choice for the 2016 holiday season. $40

Gran Turismo: Sport

Shrouded in mystery, with no definitive release date, Polyphony Digital’s long awaited Gran Turismo: Sport will be arriving some time in 2017. Since the release of the first Gran Turismo in 1997, the series has sold over 76 million copies as of March 2016.

Known widely as one of the most realistic driving simulators on the market, what has made past Gran Turismo games so popular is the ever-present element of realism, from physics to graphics, every aspect announces ‘attention to detail’.

GT Sport will feature a variety of new tracks, cars, and a livery editing mode that will let players customize cars, unlike past games.

No details yet have been released as what game engine GT Sport will be using, but if it’s any clue, in-game captured photos look stunning already. Definitely worth waiting for. $70 pre-order
