Everything you need to know about ‘Stranger Things’
A brand new and binge worthy show
The 80’s was a time of bright colors, crazy clothes, and big hair. Disco music was big and heavy metal was gaining interest.
A new and aesthetically pleasing Netflix original series is set in this decade, in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. This show is full of nostalgia and many of the older viewers will be taken back to an eerier and darker version of their past.
It all begins with a group of friends searching for their friend Will who mysteriously disappeared. ‘Stranger Things’ has a strongly written plot and includes the very well known actress, Winona Ryder, playing Will’s mother.
As Will’s friends Dustin, Mike, and Lucas are searching for him, they cross paths with a psychokinetic girl who goes by the name Eleven and says she knows where Will is. His friends begin uncovering the truth but are faced with a sinister government agency who is trying to cover up the undeniable truth. Little do either sides know an even more stealthy and creepy force is lurking in the shadows.
This is a phenomenal series that pairs teen adventuring with frightening concepts and mysteries. Now that’s enough about the plot, there’s no need to reveal anything more.
Many elements from the 80’s have been integrated into the set and they all help make the show even more realistic. From the style of the old houses and buildings to the smallest details, like old corded telephones.
The background music and the music the characters listen to are hits from the 80’s. They even had the characters use cassette tapes and ham radios, which I’m sure many younger viewers had no clue what those were. An abundance of elements from older and popular shows/movies were included, like E.T., Little Shop of Horrors, Stand By Me, Charlie’s Angels, The Goonies, Star Wars, Aliens, and All the Right Moves.
You must watch this gem for yourself, I promise you won’t regret it. The Duffer Brothers have made this an irresistible show that could easily be binged watched in a day. My only criticism is, we need more episodes!
