Ruth B transitions from social media fame on Vine to first EP ‘The Intro’
Raw, acoustic music is so rare in today’s electronic age of pop music. It would seem most of today’s artists use audio tuned or utilize artificial instruments in pop songs such as D.J Snake’s “Lean On” or Ellie Goulding’s “On My Mind.” Not that the genre of music is bad, but every once in awhile a purely authentic ballad is refreshing. Aspiring new artist Ruth Berhe, known simply as Ruth B, adheres to just that. The story of internet sensation to pop star, is all too common in today’s age. Ruth used this strategy to showcase her musical talents through Vine; a popular app that displays six second looping videos. She began by posting covers of songs and gained many followers due to her talents.
As her followers encouraged and praised her works, she began experimenting with songs she had wrote herself, and to her delight her new fans strongly approved.
“People gravitated more towards my six second originals versus the covers,” Ruth shares in a interview.
Ruth has treasured the importance of storytelling since she was young. Many of her songs reflect stories of her personal life or the lives of others. “Its funny but I always remember thinking, even when i was a little kid, that music is what i was called to do,” she shares.
Ruth’s EP album The Intro, recently released in November, is designed to be as raw as possible with a dominantly piano based soundtrack consisting of four songs. With the headlining single “Lost Boy,” Ruth touches on themes of finding oneself in imagination and dreaming big; a theme that carries on throughout the album.
With her soft instrumental pieces such as “Golden” and “Superficial Love,” the simplicity of the music allows room for her overwhelmingly calm and strong vocals to shine.
With over two million subscribers on YouTube and Vine, Ruth B is an angelic sounding star in the making with big plans for her musical talents in 2016.
