Demi Lovato’s newest album following the hit single “Heart Attack,” has had a lot of anticipation not only from fans but also general audiences. It is her follow up release to her last album, “Unbroken” which was released in 2011. She helped co-write all, but three of the songs on her album and you can definitely tell by the recurring theme which seems to be a bit of bad-a** rocker girl who’s tired of getting walked on and hurt.
With a name like “Fire Starter,” you expect a rocky vibe from the song. Lovato pulls through in that aspect however, its almost sounds like you have heard it before. More specifically, the beat and vocals sound very cookie cutter. When the chorus rolls around, you expect an explosion of pop rock guitar riffs and hard vocals, but instead she doesn’t. I wish she would have just gone for it and reached that climactic point in the chorus.
“Made in the USA” is my favorite off of the 12 track album. It will definitely be found on many summer playlists. This particular track is definitely top 40 radio material with its catchy pop choruses to the patriotic guitar breakdown for the bridge.
In “Nightingale,” the vocals are very raw and sound amazing against the building piano. Lovato hits all the right notes at all the right spots. It is very easy to write this song off because of how slow it starts off, and towards the halfway mark, it starts to pick up and really show her abilities.
Joining Lovato is another young pop artist, Cher Lloyd. This track is another one of my favorites on the album, only because of Lloyd’s rapping bit. Her little feature is the most unique part of the whole album. The rest of the song is again, very cookie cutter and familiar. This album has an equal amount of soft and hard rock songs, its variety is acceptable. However, the beats and vocal riffs get repetitive very quickly.
Unless you are a die hard Demi Lovato fan (or a Lovatic), I would recommend previewing the songs before you purchase the album in its entirety.
